السيدة سوزان جبور تفوز برئاسة اللجنة الفرعية للوقاية من التعذيب لدى الأمم المتحدة

أول أسيوية – لبنانية تنتخب رئيسة اللجنة الفرعية للوقاية من التعذيب لدى الأمم المتحدة.

فازت السيدة سوزان جبور برئاسة اللجنة الفرعية للوقاية من التعذيب لدى الأمم المتحدة للفترة 2021-2023 وقد جرت الانتخابات بتاريخ 12/2/2021 في جنيف.

تميزت جبور بخلفية علمية وثقافية واسعة في مجال حقوق الإنسان والوقاية من التعذيب وعملت كنائب رئيس للجنة الفرعية لفترة ثماني سنوات راكمت فيها خبراتها في مجال الوقاية من التعذيب ومراقبة أماكن الاحتجاز وفي مساعدة الدول وتقديم المشورة لها.

إنّ إنتخاب السيدة جبور سيسهم بشكل كبير من خلال مسيرتها وخبراتها في تطوير عمل اللجنة الفرعية كما يؤكد انتخابها على الاتجاه الجديد المرحب به نحو إعطاء المرأة دوراً قيادياً داخل اللجنة الفرعية للوقاية من التعذيب وداخل الهيئات التعاقدية في الأمم المتحدة.

The first Asian-Lebanese woman to be elected as chairperson of the United Nations Subcommittee for Prevention of Torture.

Mrs. Suzanne Jabbour won the presidency of the Subcommittee for Prevention of Torture at the United Nations for the period 2021-2023, and the elections were held on 12/2/2021 in Geneva.

Jabbour has a wide scientific and cultural background in the field of human rights and torture prevention and worked as vice president of the sub-committee for a period of eight years, during which she accumulated her experiences in the field of torture prevention, monitoring places of detention, and in assisting and advising states.

Mrs. Jabbour’s election will contribute greatly through her career and experience in developing the work of the Subcommittee. Her election also confirms the welcome new trend towards giving women a leadership role within the Subcommittee for Prevention of Torture and within the contracting bodies of the United Nations.
